Legacy 04:58
A strong man I am | on the surface, dying Inside | emotionally, doubtfully trying to hide | carefully, explosively telling you lies | I haven't learned to fly, but the damage is done | I'm trying to provide | the good still die young, flashing lights | what will they say when I'm gone | my legacy , will carry on | afraid to die alone | that's why I'm trying to refine, what we call a home | cause I’m just a guy who's in love with the girl right in front of me | ‘Cause I know that feeling, will shake off the demons inside of me | what will they say when I'm gone | my legacy, will carry on | my legacy, will carry on | my legacy, my legacy, my legacy, my legacy

Don't Forget 04:29
I was raised in the streets, uh | I was cold to the touch, colder in me | but you brought the heat, I longed for | I remember, I remember back | when i was just a boy, I made a promise to myself | before I found you, I'll learn to be a better man | let the green grass, flow through your veins | let it seek out, the growth in your brain | but don’t you, forget, forget to love your woman | to many days I was broke down by the highway | to afraid to put my foot down and live a honest way | I slew it down because a woman’s love is religious | if you say how you feel, then our sins disappear within us | let the green grass, flow through your veins | let it seek out, the growth in your brain | but don’t you, forget, forget to love your woman | don’t you forget | oh yea , I remember (I remember) | I remember (I remember) | I remember (I remember) | I remember (I remember) | i remember, back | when I was just a boy, my grandmother told me, don’t you forget | forget to you love your woman

I Doubt It 03:53
Wait a minute, capitalism and prison systems I cant tell the difference | meanwhile, I'm to busy bigging up my people encouraging them to speak loud | we the leaders on the leaders | Marsha ambrosius, the Floetry Jill Scott, So Golden | and I'm happy you hear now | and you can tell your grandchild you made love to this, how they here now | and I'm proud, just control the crowd and we got it | I'm sharing with you the things that I found | you claiming though you understand by I doubt it, I doubt it | I doubt it, alright let me check that, hmm yeah | jesus christ societal pressure they got us grieving for life | i can still hear them reading my rights | carding my cause my skin ain't white, huh | this is that Beverly Glenn Copeland | how’d I get this far, patience | the backbone to our family, fightin’ for whoever needing a hand ‘cause the plan is to | show them I'm proud, just control the crowd and we got it | I'm sharing with you the things that I found | you claiming though you understand but I doubt it, I doubt | I doubt it, I doubt it | show em what you got Nick, that’s right, alright here we go | I'm to used to be being violent | band of brothers a code of silence | just tryna get outta that was a challenge | it takes two to tango I cant blame it on my surroundings | doubt, that I wouldn't change thing if you re-route it | all I know is if you keep the conversation going | and address what needs to be addressed to the press and never stress | cause you gotta stay proud | just control the crowd and we got it | I'm sharing with you the things that I found | you claiming though you understand but we doubt it | baby we doubt it, baby we doubt it | baby we doubt it | we doubt it, we doubt it, we doubt it, we doubt it

Cold, I'm tryna unfold the warm essence of my soul that is heat, while justifying the meaning of the ignorance, why? Should I bother to feel what they don’t, ya know? Like what the fuck is being real? and why they leave this generation questionining how we feel?, they, say you suppose to excel without a dream, he’s dead, but I believe in Martin Luther King JR. The streets, they can be so metaphorical but, what happened’s when you've been living vividly what they preach? It's a force or wall, I cant explain it, my heart is tainted I fade away in the deepest breech, like can I get a witness?, Macavoy, should I trust their wishes, maybe, I give em a helping hand and they take advantage, I gotta vent to my family thats who understands me, who? Got me in this trance, advancing through this terrain without a sound, who would have thought, the little boy focused on his appearance and his fearlessness around the crowd was, captivating pictures of his future, and learning every inch within his insanity that is pure, unbreakable like the rune ore and undeniably noticeable something i’v never seen before, I tried to speak up for what I’d die for, everyone seems to judge without hope, I wish I didn’t have ti lie to em, all this negative awareness in my growth, soap, operas what I’m into, all the emotions they be showing is so official, I can’t get a grasp on, why I’m inhaling all of this grass a bus pass is shoulda spent that on, its not me who is the problem, its whoever thinks so do you feel me?, if only you understood just what they think of us, only then you’ll know exactly what I mean, mean, mean, mean, mean

Waking up to cold sweats in summer | I’v been in a dark place no wonder why I'm, alone | an eye for an eye I guess I'm reading it wrong | I learned pay it forward, and it's worked for me | now that I found, the key | I spread that gift to the world, ‘cause its needed | we're in a time we're loosing touch with the sea | it may give you the reason to open that | it may give you the keys to your happiness back | if you get a chance, to help out give a shoulder | it will only come back, to you in the end, oh in the end | it will only come back, it will only come back to you x4 | law makers , risk takers | and trust breakers | where the fuck is you heart at | I'm recalling the days, I made a promise to myself I would change , oh | dark skin, light skin, brown skin white skin | don’t let that distract you from showing true compassion x2 / it might give you the reason to open that | it might give you the keys to your happiness back / if you get a chance, to help out give a shoulder / it will only come back, to you in the end, oh in the end | it will only come back, it will only come back to you x4

about

The recording of the project took place during a seven day residency at The National Music Centre (NMC) in Calgary, Alberta (October 5th-12th). The CBC Searchlight partnered with the NMC to award the 2018 winner this opportunity. This allowed Aquakultre to record the album with the utmost quality, using historic instruments, soundboards, and microphones. This project represents our first release as a four-piece band.

Legacy is about love, family, societal hardship, and making mistakes through life experiences, all told through the eyes of songwriter, Lance Sampson. Sampson and his partner Julia Hutt, who has contributed to the project through visual art, have started a family of their own. Hutt will take care of the album’s illustration and photography. Musically, the album touches on multiple styles and genres to relay each story. These include Rock, Country, Pop, Blues, Hip-Hop, and Soul. Aquakultre’s earlier releases have all been described as a foundation for a family.

Legacy is the result of years of soul searching, self reflection, and life experiences. Sampson will pass this down to his children, to help them understand that they’re not alone. To help expand the meaning of Legacy, Aquakultre is involving mothers who are also artists. The artists collaborating and contributing to this project are Kordeena Clayton, Julia Hutt, and Lido Pimienta. All of these mothers raise their children passionately, while still finding the time to do what they love to do. It takes a village to raise children, and mothers are the foundation of the village. Aquakultre intends to pass the “Legacy” on.
